SYNOPSIS
Four relationships spanning the four corners
of the globe are put to the ultimate test when they learn the
world may end in eight minutes - the duration of time it takes
light to travel from the sun to the Earth. Each is finally forced
to confront the most trying dynamics of their relationship in
order to reconcile differences and face Earths final moments:
with love and without fear; but, most importantly, together.
DIRECTORS STATEMENT
Have you ever wondered what you can accomplish
in eight minutes?
Maybe listen to a few favorite songs,
take your dog on a walk, or even just check your emails. But what
would you do with your last eight minutes?
For a good portion of the last decade Ive asked this hypothetical
question to many of my friends, family members, and colleagues.
I was surprised to discover how different everyone would react
in the same situation. Many people were upset to learn that they
were about to die and filled up with rage, whilst others didnt
even participate in the survey because they were too afraid to
even hypothetically talk about death.
From these surprises stemmed the motivation for LIGHT YEARS. I
wanted to make a film that illustrates how we as a society need
to turn to love in our waning moments. Nothing is as powerful,
profane, or pure.
